16 Books To Help You Think, Grow, and Prosper in 2018 (and beyond)

Without a doubt, the most common question I get asked is:

"What books would you recommend for someone just starting out on their personal development journey?" (Or some version of this).

I've given this question a lot of thought and I made the following book list to address it.

Of course, you don't have to be a newbie to benefit from these books. I've chosen books that can be read at multiple levels, they also just happen to be a great entry point for beginners. The principles in these books will be just as relevant and applicable decades from now as they are today.

Personal development is about improving and evolving across all areas of your life, not just one. With that in mind, I've included books from a variety of genres, including achievement psychology, people skills, relationships, spirituality, entrepreneurship, creativity, philosophy, and personal finance.

How to Remember More of What You Read

Have you ever read a book and loved it, but several months later couldn't remember what it was about? This has happened to me more times than I care to admit so I know how frustrating it can be.

Consuming an entire book is a significant time investment so if you can’t recall what you read, it feels like all that time you spent reading was wasted. Not a fun feeling.

This is especially true of books having to do with personal development, which make up a good portion of the books I recommend on TGP.

The whole point of reading these kind of books is to apply the information to your life so you can improve it. But it's hard to do if you can't remember what you read.

Not to worry -- I have some tips for you!

Below are some strategies that have helped me learn and recall information more effectively. I've arrived at these methods through years of trial and error and I am constantly updating and improving them. Sometimes I utilize all of these tools, sometimes only one or two. Apply them to your life however you see fit.

Best of March #TGPbookclub

March was about revisiting many of my old favorite books. I love revisiting old books I've read in the past. It amazes me how I can gain new insights from the same information depending on what's going on in my life, my mental state, etc.

Many of you have asked me to keep a log of the books I share on Instagram and Instagram stories. I'll be posting these lists every month. If you're looking for my core list of book recommendations, click here.

Recommended Books #TGPbookclub

One of the goals I wrote down for 2017 was to set aside more time for reading.

I've found reading to be one of the best ways to organize my thoughts and inspire growth in my life. You can see what books I'm currently reading on Instagram Stories, using the #TGPbookclub hashtag, and I will start posting more book reviews here on the blog.

I'm often asked for a list of books or a reading list for people getting started on their self-development journey. It was hard to come up with a short list and even harder to not write a book report on each one!

I narrowed it down by only including books I have found myself revisiting again and again.

This is my core list of books.
